Shut The Box Game

Shut The Box Game – Shut The Box presents a dice game that is very easy to play and learn. Roll the appropriate numbers to close the box. In this article, we will let you know everything about how to play the shut the box game. So, let’s get started–

Requirements

  • Two or more players
  • Score pad
  • Shut the box game board

Objective

The goal of the game is to close or decrease as many number tiles as you can during your turn.

Game Play

When all the tiles are in the upright position, it marks the beginning of the round. A player will cast two dice and sum them up. Subsequently, the player will decrease an equivalent amount of tiles.

For instance – if a total of 9 is rolled by a player, then they can decrease tiles equivalent to 9.

  • 9
  • 1 and 8
  • 2 and 7
  • 3 and 6
  • 4 and 5
  • 6, 2 and 1
  • 2,3 and 4

The player keeps rolling as long as they possess an equivalent amount of tiles to decrease. When no tiles can be reduced, the turn is marked as over.

Score

A participant scores points up to the remaining upright tiles. Once the score of a player is noted, the subsequent player starts with all tiles in the upright position.

Winning

A player is disqualified from the game if he scores 45 or more points. The player that survives till the last is the winner.

Rules

  • Once a player successfully reduces the tiles numbered 7, 8, and 9, he has the option to use only a single die, although it is not required.
  • When a player reduces all the tiles, it is referred to as “shutting the box,” in which no points are scored by the player for that turn.
  • When all the remaining players exceed 45 points in the same round, victory is claimed by the player having the lowest overall score.

Head To Head

The game is also available for two players competing head to head. Player 1 will make the initial move, just like in the first gameplay. When Player 1 is unable to reduce more tiles, their turn is marked as over. The tiles that have been lowered remain down.

Player 2 starts his turn aiming to increase the tiles that Player 1 had previously decreased. Player 2 will continue rolling until he cannot increase any more tiles. The turn then shifts back to player 1, who will once again attempt to decrease all the tiles.

If player 1 successfully reduces, he will be considered the winner. Conversely, if player 2 manages to increase all the tiles, he will be the winner.
